The surface energy of Aluminium is very high. Therefore painting and coating should be very easy. However it is almost impossible to coat metallic Aluminium directly, because it is very reactive and therefore allways coated with Aluminium oxide.

Therefore by a Plasma treatment which includes finest cleaning and etching of the Oxide layer by a Halogene or an Argon plasma can improve adhesion of coatings significantly.
