The adhesion of liquid substances (leaning agents, glue, varnish, water ...) onto a surface, designated wetting, can be significantly reduced by an anti adhesive coating created by plasma polymerisation.One method to reduce wetting particularly on plastic surfaces is plasma polymerisation of HMDSO. The resulting surface has very little surface energy, so that it is not wetted by water. The hydrophobic effect can be shown by a very high contact angle.
