Vapor Deposition

Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD). Technology to deposite layers of metalls, alloys or chemical compounds onto a substrate by evaporating the substance to be deposited in high vacuum. That means, that the substance is transfered from the solid state to the gaseous state and condenses solid again on the substrate.

Evaporation can be stimulated by various processes, for example by heat, by irradiation or by plasma sputtering.
